
ASHLAND (WKOW) -- Police identified the person who drowned in Lake Superior off the north shore of Long Island as a Middleton man.
According to Ashland County Sheriff Mick Brennan, 74-year-old Charles Conklin was reported missing while swimming about 3:30 p.m. Thursday. The U.S. Coast Guard, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and Bayfield Fire Department's dive team also responded to the call.
Conklin's body was recovered about three hours later in about 14 feet of water, according to the Ashland Daily Press. Long Island is part of the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore.
