Neighbor helps temple shooting victim

OAK CREEK (WKOW) -- A former firefighter and his alert dog may be the reason one member of the temple is alive.

Jim Haase lives near the temple and says he heard the gunfire on Sunday.

His 12-year-old blind yellow lab led him to his garage door, where he found a Sikh man standing and bleeding.

Haase used his EMT training to help the man until medical crews got there.

Haase says he's not a spiritual man, but he might be now because he was supposed to be at brunch.

"I wasn't supposed to be here at that very time, I don't know for sure, but no one, as you can see, it's remote back here, no one would've known he was here."

The Sikh man was eventually taken to Froedtert hospital, along with another temple member and Oak Creek Police Lieutenant Brian Murphy.
