Grant Co. sex assault suspect faces new charges

Posted:

GRANT COUNTY (WKOW) -- The Grant County Sheriff's Department says a man in jail for an alleged sexual assault solicited other inmates to kill his wife or plant drugs in her vehicle.

Robert VanNatta of Platteville appeared in court Monday on two charges -- solicitation of resisting or obstructing an officer with the intent to mislead and conspiracy to commit resisting or obstructing an officer with intent to mislead.

Authorities say they found VanNatta made several calls from the jail to his sister, Sally VanNatta-Ladd, in connection to paying someone to plant drugs in his wife's vehicle. Sally VanNatta-Ladd later met with someone to exchange the money.

Robert VanNatta is currently being held on a bond of $125,000, plus $10,000 cash bond on the most recent charges. He's scheduled to appear in court on August 17.

Sally VanNatta-Ladd is also charged with resisting or obstructing an officer with the intent to mislead. She was released on a $1,000 signature bond. She will appear in court on August 20.
