UPDATE: City employee hospitalized after downtown accident

MADISON (WKOW) --  A man is taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries after an accident in downtown Madison.
 
Madison police say the Streets and Recycling Department employee was picking up trash near Broom and Dayton Streets when the driver of a van hit the trash bin the employee was carrying. Police say the man is in his 40s. He was taken to the hospital, but police say he should be fine.
 
Police say the driver of the van initially drove away from the scene, but returned later.

MADISON (WKOW) -- Police say they have responded to an accident on Broom and Dayton streets in downtown Madison.
 
Officials say the incident happened just before 6:00 a.m. Thursday.
 
Madison police Sgt. Deering says a vehicle was driving northbound on Broom Street when it hit a trash can. The rubber bin then hit a City Streets employee.
 
Officials say the impact was so strong the male victim was thrown backwards. He was taken to a local hospital. There's no word on the extent of his injuries.
