Fatal rollover in Janesville Township

MADISON (WKOW) -- Rock County Sheriff's Office says a rollover accident took place at about 2 a.m. Sunday on the 5200 block of West Mineral Point Road in Janesville Township.

Deputies found a black 1998 Audi A4 on the south side of the road about 30 feet from the roadway. The car had severe damage and appeared to have overturned several times. Deputies found two victims on the ground who had been ejected from the car.

The driver and front seat passengers died from injuries sustained from the crash.

Initial investigation shows the Audi was traveling westbound on West Mineral Point Road, when the driver, Travis Simon, 19, of Edgerton, attempted to pass two other vehicles.

Deputies say while the car was trying to pass the vehicles, Simon lost control of the Audi and went into a skid. The car entered a ditch and began to roll. The vehicle overturned several times coming to rest on its wheels. Simon and the front seat passenger, Emanuel Ocelot, 18, of Janesville, were both ejected from the car.

Simon was pronounced dead at the scene by the Rock County Coroner's Office and Ocelot was transported by ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Janesville, where he was pronounced dead by hospital staff.

There were three other occupants seated in the rear of the vehicle that fled the scene prior to law enforcement's arrival. All three subjects were later found by law enforcement and were taken to local hospitals where they were treated and released for various non-life threatening injuries.

The Rock County Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the accident scene to reconstruct the accident, which is still under investigation. Speed and alcohol are believed to be a factor in the crash, according to the Rock County Sheriff's Office.
