Authorities wound bank robber in Walworth County

WALWORTH COUNTY (WKOW) – Walworth County Dispatchers responded to a bank robbery in the Town of Sugar Creek on Friday.

Authorities said they received a call around 2:11 p.m. from the People's Bank North, which is located at the intersection of Hwy 12/67 and County Trunk "A" in the Town of Sugar Creek.

Walworth County Dispatchers said the bank employee said they had just been robbed by a male who was brandishing a handgun.  The bank employee was able to give authorities a complete description of the male involved, along with his vehicle.

Officials said a Wisconsin State Trooper located the alleged vehicle a few minutes after the robbery and tried to stop it.  The suspect vehicle fled and reached speeds of more than 80 miles per hour.

Authorities said the driver traveled into Waukesha County where a Walworth County Deputy deployed "stop sticks" which is a law enforcement tool that causes the suspect vehicle's tires to lose air after running over them.  However, authorities said the driver allegedly drove around the Walworth County squad car and the stop sticks in the road.

Officials said the driver drove right at the deputy.  The deputy fired his service weapon at the front of the suspect vehicle and wounded the suspect.  The pursuit ended at 2:27 p.m.

Waukesha County Sheriff is handling the investigation of the "Officer Involved Shooting" and the Federal Bureau of Investigation is handling the Bank Robbery investigation.
