Creating "Power Felt" Technology

Posted:

NORTH CAROLINA (WKOW) -- A father and professor in North Carolina was inspired by his daughter to work on a way to keep a cell phone charged longer. So he's been working on new technology to generate electricity.

David Carroll worked with his students at Wake Forest University on the project. Layering carbon nano tubes with flexible plastic fibers, Carroll's team created a material that converts heat into electricity with the feel and thickness of a fabric.

"So this is Power Felt... all you have to do is grab it and warm it up in one hand and if you do that, you can see the voltage go way up," Carroll said.

Carroll says the next step is partnering with a company that can produce "Power Felt" Power on a larger scale.
