Paul Ryan - R
Bio: As a fifth-generation Janesville native, Paul Ryan is committed to carrying forth Wisconsin's proud tradition of hard-working, reform-minded leadership to Congress. Since first elected in 1998, Paul has fought with integrity and passion on behalf of those he serves in Wisconsin's First Congressional District. Serving as Chairman of the House Budget Committee, Paul is a leading voice for fiscal discipline and accountability in the federal government. He is also a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, where he has focused his efforts on making health care more affordable and more accessible, reducing the complexity and burdens of our federal tax code, and strengthening American jobs and competitiveness. He authored "The Path to Prosperity," a comprehensive budget proposal that tackles the interrelated crises in health care, Medicare, Medicaid, our outdated tax code, and our exploding debt.
Prior to his election to Congress, Paul worked at Ryan Inc., Central – a construction firm that was founded by Ryan's great-grandfather in 1884. Paul also gained experience in public service, serving as an aide, economic advisor, and speechwriter for various public officials in our nation's capital.
Paul currently resides near his childhood home in Janesville, his church – St. John Vianney's Parish, and his alma mater - Joseph A. Craig High School. He also earned a degree in economics and political science from Miami University in Ohio. Paul and his wife Janna are the proud parents of three children – Liza, Charlie and Sam. The youngest of four children, Paul is the son of Paul Sr. (deceased) and Betty Ryan.
