Gas prices factor into holiday weekend travel plans

Posted:

MADISON (WKOW) -- Higher gas prices have some reconsidering their travel plans for the Labor Day holiday weekend.

Gas prices are as high as $3.99 a gallon in some areas of Madison. Experts say the price hike is largely due to Hurricane Isaac.

While the higher prices are forcing some people to stay home this weekend, the band -- Two Dollar Grey -- is traveling hundreds of miles across the country in a RV.

The band has been traveling all week, coming from Phoenix, Arizona to do shows in the Midwest.

Two Dollar Grey band member Cory Michalski says they budgeted $4 per gallon of gas in their travel plans.

Michalski says with the generator running, the RV gets about five or six miles to the gallon. It gets almost eight miles per gallon without the generator.

Two Dollar Grey is in Madison to play at the Taste of Madison on Saturday.
