Dane Co. Humane Society to host event to remember pets

MADISON (WKOW) – The Dane County Humane Society and Memorial Pet Services are co-hosting a free event called, "Remembering Our Pets" in honor of National Pet Memorial Day on Saturday, September 8.

During the event, a new pergola, brick patio and garden area at the humane society. The organization says families can also celebrate their pets that are currently a part of their lives.  The memorial event is from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday.

"The bricks and surrounding garden area provide a lasting opportunity to honor or memorialize very special, and loved, family members, friends or animal companions that have made a special impact on all of our lives," said Dane County Humane Society Public Relations Coordinator Gayle Viney.

National Pet Memorial Day was originally created in 1972 by the International Association of Pet Cemeteries to remember beloved lost pets.  Memorial Pet Services is a member of the Pet Loss Professionals Alliance.
