ADEL, Iowa (WKOW) -- Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan campaigned in Iowa Wednesday, saying that America is "a country in decline" because of national debt under President Barack Obama.
Ryan says the national debt surpassed $16 trillion this week on the first day of the Democratic National Convention. Ryan says there is a lot of talk at the DNC, but no new solutions.
Ryan credits former President Bill Clinton with reforming the welfare system. The vice presidential candidate hopes to transform Medicare that's inspired by Clinton. Ryan says that Obama is "rolling back those reforms."
Clinton will give a speech on Wednesday night at the DNC.
