TOWN OF MADISON (WKOW) -- The Town of Madison and City of Fitchburg Police Departments released the names of the officers involved in the weekend officer-involved shooting.
The Town of Madison officer was 31-year-old Jonathan Weaver. Officer Weaver has served with the Town of Madison for four years. He previously was a deputy with Dane County Sheriff's Office for three years.
The Fitchburg officer was 26-year-old Lucas Hale. Officer Hale has served with the City of Fitchburg for three years.
On Sunday, officials were called to called to the intersection of Fish Hatchery Road and Greenway Cross in the Town of Madison around 12:01 a.m. Police say 18-year-old Altreo Scott of Platteville was displaying a handgun, threatening people and attempting to rob others at gunpoint.
When Officers Weaver and Hale approached Scott, he pointed a weapon at them. Officials say, based upon the observations of the officers and the threat posed to them by the suspect, the officers acted according to their training and shot at the suspect in an effort to prevent injury or death to themselves or others.
Scott received non-life threatening injuries as a result of the incident. He is in the Dane County Jail on tentative charges of attempted armed robbery, second degree recklessly endangering safety and possession of marijuana.
At the request of the Town of Madison Police Department, the Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation was called to investigate the officer-involved shooting.
Officials anticipate the DCI will present their investigation to the Dane County District Attorney and that additional details and information will be provided at the conclusion of the District Attorney's review.
Officers Weaver and Hale are on paid leave. The leave is standard protocol for officer-involved shootings.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 266-6014. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
