Wis. family of fallen soldier stops memorial run

GREEN BAY (WKOW) – The family of a fallen Marine has decided to discontinue organizing a run in his honor.

Pfc. Ryan Jerabek was killed with 11 other Marines in 2004 in an ambush in Iraq.

His family has been organizing the annual Ryan Jerabek Memorial Challenge, which also raised money for the Semper Fi Fund.  It benefits injured servicemen and women.  The run has been held for the last seven years.

Jerabek's father, Ken Jerabek, said the event collected more than $100,000 in its seven years.  The last event was August 11.

According to the Green Bay Press-Gazette, Ken Jerabek said the family is burning out and had to discontinue it for their own well-being.  He said they have done a lot of soul searching.
