Deputies respond to car vs. horse drawn buggy accident

GREEN COUNTY (WKOW) -- Two people were taken to UW Hospital after a car and horse drawn buggy accident. One man was arrested for a drunk driving related charge and remains in the Green County Jail.

Deputies were called to the crash on County Highway E, north of Borchardt Road in Decatur Township, around 8:15 a.m. Sunday.

Officials say a horse drawn buggy was rear-ended by a car driving north. The crash caused the buggy to overturn in the road. There were four passengers in the buggy.

The buggy had extensive damage and was removed from the scene. The horse that was involved in the accident sustained serious injuries and had to be euthanized at the scene by the Sugar River Vet Service of Brodhead.

The driver of the car, 32-year-old Nicholas Roth, was not hurt in the accident. Roth was arrested at the scene on a warrant for failure to pay a fine for his third OWVWI offense. He was also cited for operating a vehicle while revoked, which is similar to an OWI offense. Roth was not able to post bond and remains at the Green County Jail.
