O'FALLON, Mo. (WKOW) – Police are investigating the death of a former minor-league baseball player from suburban St. Louis.
Police say the body of 24-year-old Kent Gerst of O'Fallon was found in a creek hours after he was reported missing Sunday afternoon.
Investigators suspect he may have fallen from a small bluff though they have not yet confirmed the cause of death.
Gerst was a 2006 draft pick of the Chicago White Sox who made it as high as Triple-A before being released. He later signed with the Gateway Grizzlies, an independent minor-league team in Sauget, Ill. He hit .228 in 36 games for the Grizzlies in 2011.
