1 dead, 1 injured after crash in La Crosse County

LA CROSSE COUNTY (WKOW) – A 69-year-old Onalaska man is dead after a fatal accident near Onalaska Friday afternoon.

The Wisconsin State Patrol responded to a crash around 3:56 p.m. on I-90 EB at Mile Post 7 in La Crosse County near Onalaska.

Authorities said both drivers at the crash site were taken to the hospital. Thomas L. Clark was pronounced deceased at the hospital.  Authorities have identified Michael James Bolton, 42-year-old from Onalaska, as the driver in the other vehicle.  Bolton was treated for non-life threatening injuries. 

Officials said Clark was slowing or stopping in the right lane, when Bolton struck him from behind, causing major damage to both vehicles.

According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.  Authorities believe alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
