Claims filed in sunbather's death in Madison

Posted:

MADISON (WKOW) -- Attorneys for the estate of Karen Remington have filed wrongful death claims against the City of Madison.

The 38-year-old Remington was killed in May while sunbathing at James Madison Park where she was run over by a city truck.

The claims total at least $250,000.

A representative from the law firm of Coyne, Schultz, Becker & Bauer, S.C., which represents Remington's estate, said the notice of claim is a prerequisite to filing a lawsuit. He said the motion means a lawsuit could be filed, but it is not a guarantee that a suit will be filed.

The claims were on the Madison Common Council's agenda Tuesday night for referral to the city's risk manager.
