
SPARTA (WKOW) -- Five teenagers are recovering from burn injuries after fireworks exploded inside their moving vehicle in Monroe County.
Sparta officials say police officers were notified about the incident around 4:30 a.m. Monday after the teens arrived at a local hospital.
Officials believe the teens were throwing lit fireworks from their vehicle when one went off inside. Police say the teens are all 17-year-old boys from the Sparta area. The driver of the car was able to take the teens to the hospital.
WKBT-TV reports four of the injured teens were transferred by air to other medical facilities.
Their conditions are unknown at this time.
