OAK CREEK (WKOW) -- A new garden memorial at the Oak Creek High School honors the victims of the Sikh temple shooting.
Community members worked Saturday to put the finishing touches on the garden, which includes a number of prairie plans to represent Oak Creek's diversity.
For Pardeep Kaleka, whose father was killed in the August 5 shooting, it represents a new found collaborative spirit in Oak Creek.
"That's where you find peace, you understand that maybe these deaths were not in vain. They were actually for a bigger cause, a great cause and that helps you find a little bit of closure. Not that you're ever going to find closure, but it helps you find it," Kaleka told WISN 12 News.
Some of those working on the garden hope that as the plants grow with time, the community's understanding of different cultures will too.
