MADISON (WKOW) -- A Madison teenager is facing a tentative charge of Battery to a Police Officer after officials say she punched a Madison Police officer several times in the face Wednesday night.

Authorities say shortly before 8:00 p.m. on Sunday in the 3000 block of Darbo Dr., an officer tried to contact a 16-year-old suspect from an earlier dispute. They say the teenage girl grabbed the female officer's hair before punching her several times.

According to the police report, a 31-year-old Janesville man observed the struggle and came to the officer's aid by tackling the suspect.

Earlier, around 7:15 p.m., officials say the suspect had gone to a home in the 300 block of Rethke Ave. and tried to pick a fight with a 14-year-old girl.

Besides the Battery charge, the 16-year-old girl is also facing tentative charges of Resisting/Obstructing, Disorderly Conduct and Criminal Trespass.

Madison Police say the female officer was taken to the hospital with non-serious injuries. They say she did injure her shoulder and had some soreness.

No other information is being released at this time.
