MADISON (WKOW) -- Bucky Badger, University of Wisconsin-Madison Marching Band members, and several student-athletes visited with kids at John Muir Elementary School Friday.
Retiring teacher Dana Fuhrman has organized the "Kindergarten Tailgate" event for about ten years. Fuhrman says she wanted the students to get excited about being part of the community and encourage them that they can go on to higher education.
"I want the kids to understand that in order to get better jobs, you need a higher education and if it's not a four-year college, maybe a tech school," Fuhrman said." The more education you get, the better pay you get and hopefully jobs."
Fuhrman says UW-Madison athletes have been going to John Muir Elementary School to mentor the students for a few years. She hopes their presence inspires the kids to do well in school.
