Pizza restaurant owner gets 5 years for setting 2011 fire

MADISON (WKOW) -- The owner of a pizza restaurant in Lodi has been sentenced for arson in a 2011 fire.

Thomas L. Matje, 46, of DeForest, will spend five years in prison. In August, he pleaded guilty to setting fire to Fat Boys Pizza in December 2011.

Matje told the judge he used lighter fluid to ignite the fire that spread from an electrical outlet in the kitchen of the restaurant. He said the business was unsuccessful and he wanted to try to "get rid of it".

Matje was ordered to pay about $160,000 in restitution to the insurance company of the building owner, as well as two tenants who were displaced by the fire.
