MADISON (WKOW) – A Madison teen was arrested for stealing items from unlocked vehicles Monday afternoon.

Officials say the 15-year-old boy skipped school with another teen and started stealing from unlocked vehicles in the East Towne Mall parking lot around 2:13 p.m. Monday.

Police say witnesses spotted the young men entering several cars.

Officials say one boy dropped a stolen backpack as police were called to the scene. Officers found the boys hiding behind a truck in the parking lot of a nearby restaurant.

Authorities say one of the teens was arrested on the spot. The 15-year-old boy was cited and released for theft, possession of drug paraphernalia and truancy.  The second teen ran into a line of trees near a marshy area. Police say he got a stick in the eye and fell into shallow water before giving up to authorities.
