MILWAUKEE (WKOW) -- The FBI opened a civil rights investigation into the death of a man while he was in custody of Milwaukee police.
Officers arrested Derek Williams in July 2011 for a robbery. He died while he was in the back of a squad car.
It was originally ruled a natural death, but the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner recently changed the manner of death to homicide.
A U.S. attorney says they are also considering a formal investigation into a possible pattern of civil rights abuses by the Milwaukee Police Department.
