Suspect in 2011 flight disturbance sentenced

MADISON (WKOW) -- After an investigation conducted by the Dane County Sheriff's Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation, Mitchell Wilhoit, 32, of Greenville, Tennessee was sentenced today to three months of unsupervised probation and a $500 fine for assaulting another person on an airplane. 

On August 6, 2011, Wilhoit was on a Delta Airlines flight from Minneapolis to Knoxville, but the plane was diverted to Madison after Wilhoit refused to obey the flight attendants' orders to extinguish his cigarette. 

Wilhoit pleaded guilty to this charge July 12, 2012.
