PLEASANT PRAIRIE (WKOW) -- A train hit a 16-year-old boy wearing headphones in Kenosha County on Friday.
Authorities said the accident happened around 7:10 a.m. as the boy was walking on Canadian Pacific Railroad tracks just south of State Highway 50 in Pleasant Prairie.
According to a news release, the police said the train sounded its horn and activated its emergency brakes, but it appeared the teen was not able to hear the warning signals.
Police Sgt. Scott Durkee said on Saturday that the teen was listening to headphones.
Authorities said the teen had been conscious and alert when rescue personnel arrived on scene and that he was initially taken to a local hospital. The teen was later taken by helicopter to Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital in Milwaukee.
Durkee did not have an update of the teens condition on Saturday. The teen's name has not yet been released.
