Wisconsin woman turned away from hospital; gives birth in living room

Posted:

VIROQUA (WKOW) -- A Viroqua, Wisconsin woman had a baby in her living room after being turned away from the hospital.

Lisa McGrath and Thad Alexander showed up the hospital three weeks ago. "They didn't think I was anywhere near ready," McGrath said. She was told to go home, take some Tylenol and to try and go to sleep.

About two minutes after the parents-to-be returned home, their baby Barren arrived.

"It was amazing. I caught him and his eyes were open and he cried twice," Alexander said about the impromptu birth.

Paramedics arrived shortly after but Lisa and Thad say those first few minutes as a family brought everyone closer together.
