UPDATE: Madison man arrested after fatal crash on west side

MADISON (WKOW) -- Madison police have arrested a 21-year-old man following a fatal crash over the weekend.

Officials say Lawrence Montgomery, of Madison, faces a charge of Homicide by Intoxicated Use of a Vehicle following Saturday's crash near the intersection of Tokay Boulevard and Odana Road.

Police say Montgomery was driving a Chevy Impala around 5:30 a.m. Saturday, when it went off the road and hit a tree.

According to police, one passenger, 21-year-old Richie Christie, of Waukesha, died from his injuries related to the single car crash. Another passenger, a 20-year-old woman from the Madison area, was taken to the hospital for serious head injuries. She remains in the hospital.

Madison police say their investigation into the crash continues.

MADISON (WKOW) – A Waukesha man is killed in a crash in Madison over the weekend.

The Dane County Medical Examiner's office says Richie R. Christie, 21, was killed when a vehicle hit a tree early Saturday morning in the 5900 block of Odana Road. It happened just before 5:30 a.m.

Christie was the passenger in the vehicle. The driver was hurt too. Both were taken to the hospital with significant injuries. Authorities say Christie died a short time later. An autopsy will be done Monday.

Madison police say the driver of the vehicle is being processed for a possible OWI.
