Lawyers for GOP withheld emails in redistricting case

Posted:

MADISON (WKOW) -- A report says attorneys hired by Republican lawmakers to help with Wisconsin's redistricting process withheld emails to groups suing them.

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the forensic examiner's report says the lawyers for Michael Best & Friedrich didn't provide 34 emails that were subpoenaed for the case, even after a court order. The judge in the case charged the law firm about $17,500 for filing frivolous motions to try and block the release of other records.

The emails concern methods Republicans used last year to draw new legislative and congressional maps. A group of Democrats and the immigrant rights group Voces de la Frontera sued over the maps, claiming they favored Republicans.
