WAUSAU (WKOW) -- A small plane crash-landed near the Wausau Downtown Airport Wednesday morning.
The airport manager says the pilot was the only person on board the single-engine plane went it crashed outside the fenced in area of the airport.
He was approaching the airport from the south. Officials say weather may have been a factor in the crash but it is still too early to tell.
The pilot was taken to the hospital with serious injuries
The Federal Aviation Administration is now investigating the crash. Authorities say the investigation could take months to complete.
