Jury selection to continue in Sheley murder trial

Posted:

MORRISON, Ill. (WKOW) -- Prosecutors and defense attorneys are working to pick a jury in the second trial of a man accused of killing eight people in Illinois and Missouri during 2008.

Reports say that four jurors were chosen earlier this week to hear testimony in the trial of Nicholas Sheley. Jury selection continues Tuesday.

Two men and two women were chosen, including a retired business owner, a preschool teacher, a former volunteer firefighter and a farmer. Attorneys and the judge questioned 20 potential jurors as they work to seat 12 jurors and three alternates.

Sheley has pleaded not guilty in the slaying of 93-year-old Russell Reed of Sterling. He's already been convicted in the murder of a 65-year-old Galesburg man, and he faces trials in the deaths of six others.
