MADISON (WKOW) -- Thousands of costumed partiers came out to State Street Saturday for the annual Freakfest celebration. Even with the homecoming game landing on the same day, Madison Police say Freakfest has been incident-free.
"We haven't had any issues in the past five years since I've had this job and we're not anticipating any problems here tonight," Madison Police Department Spokesman Joel DeSpain said. Crowds of 35,000 to 40,000 were expected to fill State St., according to police.

MADISON (WKOW) -- With the UW-Madison homecoming football game and Freakfest on Saturday, there will definitely be delays downtown. And with this year's Halloween bash expected to be even bigger than last year, you'll want to plan for extra time.
Charlie Goldstone from Frank Productions, the event's producer, says ticket sales have already been more than last year. He says they have already sold over 10,000 as of Friday night, but he expects around 40,000 people to show up to the event.
Goldstone thinks having a bigger headliner and it being homecoming weekend is the reason for the higher ticket sales.
Goldstone says tickets can be purchased ahead of time at Ticketmaster, Frank Productions, by phone at 800-745-3000, or at several businesses in the State Street area. He says tickets will also be sold on Saturday.
Goldstone doesn't expect there to be any problems or disturbances during the event, but said there will be more police patrolling the area due to the football game.
