MADISON (WKOW) -- Five members of a Madison family are displaced after a basement fire at their east side home.
Madison firefighters responded to the 4000 block of Steinies Drive around 8 p.m. Sunday night. When fire crews arrived to the scene, they saw light smoke coming from the home. All occupants were outside.
Officials say the fire is believed to have started in the basement, and the fire was put out in ten minutes. The fire restarted briefly, after it made its way into a false ceiling. That was quickly extinguished.
There were no injuries, and the family pets, a dog, two cats, and a pet rat were all safely removed from the home.
Damages to the home are estimated at $50,000. The cause of the blaze is still under investigation. The American Red Cross - Badger Chapter responded to the scene and is assisting the family.
