One person rescued from Monroe fire

MONROE (WKOW) -- Fire officials say they rescued a person from a fire in Monroe early Tuesday morning. 

The City of Monroe Fire Department was called to the on the 2400 block of 4th Street around 3:00 a.m. Tuesday. 

Upon arrival, crews found a tenant trapped on the second story balcony. That person was rescued without injury. All others in the building were evacuated with assistance from the Monroe Police Department. Those people were first taken to the United Methodist Church and then to a local hotel.

Officials say the fire was contained to a kitchen in one apartment without further damage to other units. Crews were on scene for nearly two and a half hours.  No one was injured.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by both the City of Monroe Fire and Police Departments.
