MADISON (WKOW) -- There are some things to think about this Halloween to keep the kids from catching the flu bug.
Julie Hitt, a registered nurse from Home Health United, says to make sure they don't reach in the candy buckets when trick-or-treating.
She recommends people handing out candy, actually hand it to the kids instead of having them reach for what they want.
Hitt also says to make sure the kids aren't touching their faces or the mouths after picking up the treats, and they should wait until they get home to eat them.
Parents should take some hand sanitizer along with them on the route.
Hitt also says not to share masks or makeup, as they can carry germs.
