State lawmakers criticize cops in Brookfield salon shooter case

Posted:

MILWAUKEE (WKOW) -- Twelve state lawmakers have written to the Brown Deer police chief asking for an independent investigation of their interactions with a man involved in a deadly salon shooting.

The letter dated Tuesday accuses the department of not upholding Wisconsin's mandatory arrest law in domestic violence cases. It also criticizes them for blaming the victim for not cooperating.

Radcliffe Haughton fatally shot his wife, Zina Haughton, and two other women at a Brookfield spa on October 21. Four others were wounded before he killed himself.

Police went to the Haughtons' home 20 times in the past decade, including at least seven possible domestic violence calls.

The lawmakers want a transparent investigation of the department's interactions with Haughton and their domestic violence policies.
