MILWAUKEE (WKOW) -- A 41-year-old man will spend 17 years in prison for a drunken driving crash in Milwaukee that killed two pedestrians.

Martin Rodriguez was fleeing police in a pickup when he hit the victims as they crossed a street last November.

Forty-nine-year-old Frances Pizarro died immediately. Her 20-year-old son, Edward Lindsey, died 10 days later.

In August, Rodriguez pleaded guilty to two counts of homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle.

Police say Rodriguez ditched his truck and jumped into the Milwaukee River. Tests later showed he had a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.206 percent. He told police he didn't remember hitting the victims.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports Rodriguez will serve 10 years of extended supervision after he gets out of prison.
