MADISON (WKOW) -- The line to vote early stretched out the door Friday in Madison.

As of 4 p.m., 17,722 people had voted in Madison in the entire early voting period. 1,359 people had voted on Friday alone. 29,242 absentee ballots had been issued, which includes the 17,722 in-person early voters.

The city clerk's office says it expects this year's early turnout to top 2008, when it issued 32,012 absentee ballots. 28,669 ballots were returned, which included 17,808 early in-person ballots.

MADISON (WKOW) -- Friday is the last day you can cast your vote early in Wisconsin.

Many people have taken advantage of early voting, to avoid long lines on Tuesday.

The Government Accountability Board says it has sent out more than 412,000 absentee ballots. More than 256,000 of those are in-person, early voting. In 2008, more than 633,000 people in Wisconsin voted absentee.
