MADISON (WKOW) -- Christmas is on the way and the giving spirit is back. You can help local seniors in need by participating in the "Be a Santa to a Senior" event.
The purpose of the program is to bring holiday cheer and gift giving to seniors who are least likely to receive a present during the holiday season, are lonely, and financially needy.
Home Instead Senior Care has developed partnership committees consisting of non-profit organizations and community leaders. Area agencies and facilities will provide names of lonely or financially challenged older adults in our community, as well as gift ideas for each name.
To participate, all you have to do is go to one of the many Christmas trees set up at several Madison stores. They include the local Walgreens (Corner of Pflaum and Monona Dr, PD and Fish Hatchery, McFarland and Oregon), Monona Senior Center, Mallatt Pharmacy on Monroe Street, Harmony Living Center (705 Ziegler Road), The Jefferson (9401 Old Sauk Road, Middleton) and Legacy Gardens (1601 Wheeler Rd). Ornaments will be completed and placed on the trees by volunteers. You can take an ornament from these trees and purchase gifts for the senior from the gift ideas listed on the ornament. Then you simply return the purchased items to the store from which you took the ornament.
