MILWAUKEE (WKOW) – Milwaukee County deputies arrested a 21-year-old Waukesha man for driving the wrong-way on a freeway for more than 15 miles.
Authorities said the man was driving southbound in the northbound lanes of I-43 near downtown Milwaukee around 2:20 a.m. on Saturday.
A deputy tried to get the driver's attention by shining a spotlight into the vehicle after pulling up parallel to the vehicle with lights and sirens activated.
The 21-year-old driver ignored the squad car and made an abrupt U-turn in traffic.
A deputy eventually stopped the driver. Authorities said preliminary tests showed the driver had a blood-alcohol level of 0.18 percent, which is more than twice the legal limit.
The sheriff's office is seeking charges including first-offense drunken driving and recklessly endangering safety.
