KENOSHA (WKOW) -- A New Berlin man is honored 65 years after leaving the U.S. Air Force. During what George Michel thought was a local school celebration for Veterans Day Friday, a teacher stepped forward and announced that he was going to receive his Victory Medal.
Michel was with an Air Force squadron in England. His first air mission was days after the D-Day invasion in June 1944.
"I just about melted," Michel said after finding out that he would be getting his medal. The Victory Medal is awarded to any member of the United States military who served in WWII to commemorate their time in the service.
