MADISON (WKOW) -- The homeless camp at the Occupy Madison site on East Washington Avenue has been cleared.
The roughly 25 homeless people who had been camping there met the city's 3:00 p.m. Sunday deadline to move out, but at least some of them moved their tents to Lake View Hill County Park, off Northport Drive on Madison's north side.
In response, Madison police issued a statement saying that the group staying at the park is a violation of ordinances but is not an immediate public safety issue.
Police say they will monitor the group's activity at the new site.
MADISON (WKOW) -- With a 3:00 p.m. Sunday deadline, some of the 20 to 25 people who have been camping at the Occupy Madison site on East Washington Avenue have moved early. Brenda Konkel, Executive Director of the Tenant Resource Center, says some pitched their tents in a field on the 1200-block of Northport Drive.
Homeowners in the area have mixed feelings. "We're sort of trying to talk to people and say, 'hey, let's talk, let's work it out," neighbor Maria Powell said. She also said some other people in the area are not very happy with the situation.
About a dozen people were at the new location Saturday afternoon. Konkel says some also remained at the empty lot on the 800-block of East Washington Avenue.
