LA CROSSE (WKOW) -- Sunday is Veterans Day, but the celebration began a day early at UW-La Crosse.
The University's football team hosted Saturday's "Pack the Vet for a vet" event, which gave veterans and their families free tickets to today's WU-La Crosse Eagles football game.
Two local men were honored on the field.
Marine Corporal Gauge Griffin, a recent graduate of GET High School, stepped on an improvised explosive device during a routine patrol overseas and suffered a traumatic brain injury.
Corporal Griffin is now home undergoing rehabilitation.
The other veteran honored today was for UW-La Cross football player Jason Church, who earned a purple heart after sustaining injuries from an improvised explosive device that resulted in the partial loss of both of his legs.
