JANESVILLE (WKOW) – Janesville Police say alcohol may have been a factor in a single vehicle crash that injured two people early Sunday morning.

The Janesville Police Department responded to a single vehicle injury accident on the Milwaukee Street Bridge around 2:23 a.m.

Authorities arrested the driver of the vehicle, 25-year-old Veronica Walker of Janesville, on a charge of OWI causing injury.  Police said Walker and a passenger were transported to Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center by ambulance for treatment of injuries.

Officials said a second passenger was arrested for violating probation and was transported to the Rock County Jail.

Witnesses told police that Walker was traveling west on W. Milwaukee Street at a high rate of speed when the vehicle jumped the south side curb, entered the sidewalk and struck the bridge railing.

Officials said Walker's vehicle spun around and struck the railing with the rear portion of the vehicle and eventually came to rest facing in a northbound direction on the sidewalk just east of the Riverfront Athletic Club.

Police dispatched the City of Janesville Street Department to secure approximately 30 feet of bridge railing.  Authorities said the vehicle and bridge railing were severely damaged.

Police said estimates were not available for the repair and replacement of the cement railing.
