VERONA (WKOW) -- Some area dance students are using their art to help others.
The Kalaanjali School of Dance and Music in Madison held a special performance Sunday afternoon.
All proceeds from the showcase of classical Indian dance and music benefit the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin Victim Memorial Fund.
On August 5th, seven people were killed in the shooting at the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin in Oak Creek, including the gunman. A police officer was also seriously hurt.
Students at the dance company wanted to do everything they could to help those victims and share their culture with the public.
"In terms of a disaster, how to kind of come out of it and enjoy the fine beauty of art and also share with the community," says director Meenakshi Ganesan.
Ganesan says all of her students did a great job preparing for the event and selling tickets.
