Paul Ryan reflects on VP run

Posted:

JANESVILLE (WKOW) -- Paul Ryan is heading back to Capitol Hill, but as a congressman, not the vice president.

The Janesville native says he was sure he'd be bringing his family with him this time.

In his first public comments since he and Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney lost the election, Ryan says they were shocked by the result. He says they could see the signs when battleground states began going to President Barack Obama.

"It was a well-run campaign. We made this campaign about big ideas and big issues, which is the kind of campaign we wanted to run, so we ran the kind of campaign we wanted to run. It just wasn't enough at the end of the day, and we just have to accept that," Ryan says.

When asked if the campaign changed him, Ryan responded," Sure it's changed me in the appreciation for what it takes to win these elections, for how many people care so much about their country and will do so much to make a difference."

Ryan says he has no regrets about running for vice president.

As for what may happen in 2016, Ryan says it's the last thing on his mind right now.
