MANITOWOC (WKOW) -- People in Manitowoc rallied to save their downtown landmark and it worked.
That means the iconic Budweiser bottles will remain in place.
The mural at the old Anheuser-Busch plant was supposed to be removed over the weekend.
But people sent more than 1,000 messages to the mayor asking him to save the painting.
Eventually the city and the building's new owner came to an agreement.
Residents say it's an important piece of the city's history.
"I don't know a single employee that was not proud to work for that company. They were awesome to work for. It's going to remind me of many friends that I met while working there," says former Anheuser-Busch employee Debbie Hoida-Reilly.
Manitowoc's mayor says members of the community will be expected to give their time and money to maintain the mural.
He says he doesn't expect that to be a problem.
