AUGUSTA (WKOW) -- Video released Tuesday shows just how close a Wisconsin police officer came to possibly losing his life.
On Saturday afternoon, Augusta police officer Dane Wisniewski made a routine traffic stop.
When he went back to his vehicle, an oncoming SUV veered across the center line and hit the officer's SUV.
The Augusta police chief says if Wisniewski had taken several seconds longer to get into his vehicle, it could have been much worse.
"It could have been terrible. I mean, I could have been, very bad, could have been making a call to parents and loved ones of an officer killed, or even the other driver.," says Chief Mike Mosley.
Mosley says Wisniewski suffered strained muscles, neck and back pain, but he didn't need to be hospitalized.
Mosley says he hopes the officer will return to work in a week or two.
The other driver wasn't hurt.
They're still investigating why the other vehicle crossed the center line.
