Badger women split series at Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Wisconsin women's hockey team dropped a 3-1 decision to Ohio State on Saturday at Value City Arena.
The Buckeyes (10-4-0, 8-4-0-0 WCHA) forced the weekend split after the Badgers (8-4-2, 4-4-2-2 WCHA) won Friday's game, 4-2.
It took until late into the third period for the Badgers to find the back of the net. While on the power play, Courtney Burke took a shot from the top of the left circle. The shot was stopped by OSU goalie Chelsea Knapp and Madison Packer found the rebound, but Knapp stopped the second chance as well. The third chance bounced out to Alev Kelter who buried the puck into the open net to get the Badgers on the board at the 16:45 mark of the third period.
Wisconsin was stifled all game long by a stingy Ohio State defense, as the Buckeyes blocked a total of 17 shots. The Badgers were also forced to take many of their shots from the perimeter, creating an easier job for Knapp in net.
Taylor Kuehl scored the first two Buckeyes' goals, with the first coming on the power play in the first period and the second coming in the second period. Julie McKinnon added a goal in the third period, giving the Buckeyes a 3-0 lead.
Kelter's power-play goal was the first for the Badgers since Karly Sylvester scored on the man advantage on Oct. 28 against New Hampshire.
Alex Rigsby made 30 saves in net for the Badgers, making 23 in the first two periods.
Wisconsin was outshot 25-17 in the first two periods, but a 17-8 margin in shots in the third period gave the Badgers a 34-33 advantage for shots in the game.
The Badgers return home next week, hosting St. Cloud State for a Thanksgiving matchup on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 23-24. Both games are slated to begin at 2 p.m.
