LANCASTER (WKOW) -- A small Grant County community is in mourning after a car accident Wednesday killed one teenager and left four others injured.
Lancaster school officials say there's no question that 15-year-old MaKayla Hore was special. "Whatever she did, she was fantastic at," Jeff Pross said. Pross taught Hore in 5th grade and also lived next door to her family. "All around she was a very talented kid, academically and sports-wise," he said.
Lancaster High School principal Mark Uppena says the accident that killed Hore and injured four other students has left the community devastated. "We just gotta be there for our kids, our people, our staff -- because it affects all of us," Uppena said.
There's been an outpouring of support on Facebook. More than 4,500 have joined a group memorializing Hore's life, in a town of about 3,800.
Just south of the Town of Stitzer, a cross marks the crash site on Liberty Ridge Road. The Grant County Sheriff's Department says their preliminary investigation shows that speed may have been a contributing factor and alcohol does not appear to be involved.
Uppena said, "It's just a tragic, tragic happening that we're all trying to cope with and trying to deal with at this time." The school has and will continue to provide counselors for both students and staff members affected by the accident.
Authorities say16-year-old Morgan Hoehne was driving the car. Other passengers included 15-year-old Nathaniel Tranel, 14-year-old Kindra Yoose and 17-year-old Jena Hore, MaKayla's sister. Their conditions range from stable to critical but stable
